Alan Piercy is a Columbia, South Carolina native who has made his home in Raleigh, North Carolina since 2010. In the midst of a 30+ year career in the insurance industry, he is a side-hustling writer and historian, lover of travel, and books, and dogs, and Gamecock sports.
He and his wife, Melissa, are two-time Ironman finishers, and fair-to-middling age groupers of the 5 and 10k variety of late. They tied the knot following their first 140.6 mile event in Cozumel, Mexico in 2010. His narrative of the 2008 JFK 50 Mile ultra-marathon was profiled in Marathon & Beyond Magazine.
Alan’s current project is a history of University of South Carolina athletics in the years between membership in the ACC and the SEC (1971 – 1991), titled The Wilderness, scheduled for a fall, 2023 release by USC Press.
